According to Cyclone Warning Centre officials the quake was felt measuring 1.5 on Rochter Scale over an area of 9 km here due to the deep-sea activity.
Though there were no reports of any damage to property due to the seismic activity, people got panic due to shaking of furniture and equipment for a few seconds.
Centre for Seismology confirmed that the tremors were experienced at a depth of 10 km in the Bay of Bengal.
